A Broader Perspective

I and am taking this opportunity to outline new and fresh objectives for cyblog!

My primary discussions with Aadesh, when I invited him to contribute revealed that he was overly inclined towards Visual Design, and hence I thought why not give this blog a broader perspective?

User Experience definitely involves or encapsulates:

1. Visual Design
2. Design (in the abstract idea)
3. Interaction Design
4. Experimental Design
5. Product Design (Remember Norman's Emotional Design?)
6. Usability
7. Cognitive Psychology
8. Persuasive Design

and a load of other exciting avenues to explore!

Microsoft learns the hard way!

When it boils down to Cliché, we'd say:

"When you are naked you are...?"
"Stark naked"
"hmmm...?"
"Ah, well...It's Starck!"

Microsoft has taken product design and User Experience seriously...

And a small step in this direction is the Microsoft site revamp, and the Starck Optimouse release.

Check here for the Starck Optimouse.

Dreaming at SapnaOnline!

Sapnaonline.com is our home grown Indian edition of Amazon.

I thought I would probably get a chance for ordering good design related books, but a User Experience issue pestered me to blog about it.

Every new page that popped up at http://www.sapnaonline.com would have a JavaScript popup like the following appear:

Now what would this mean to an architecture student who was trying to lay his hands on a couple of good books?

"Some remoting thingy? Ah, well..."

How do you expect the User to know what RSEnableRemoteScripting is? And whether that method is invoked or not?

And to top that, if he decided to try his luck answering that question, maybe by Clicking a Yes or No he sees a single option that mocks at him saying OK!!!

Why pop that message at all, if all it offers to be is just an obstacle, and doesn't make a difference whatsoever, whether it appears or not.
